Here are some words about places we have visited during 1997-2003, while living in Malaysia. Click on the links to learn more!
1997: We moved to Malaysia from Florida, USA, in October 1997. Morten came to Kuala Lumpur October 10 1997 while Inger and Fredrik stayed in the US until February 30 1998.
1998: We spent the first months in Malaysia exploring Kuala Lumpur (KL) and the sights around the city, like the Butterfly Park, KL Tower, Twin Towers, Zoo Negara, Mines Resort, Batu Caves, National Museum, Sunway Lagoon, Genting Highlands, etc. Then we took a look at the neighboring areas, including Singapore which is only 3 hour drive or 40 minutes flight from here. Singapore is actually the place we visit the most as it is so close. Our first real vacation was in July 1998 when we went home to Scandinavia and spent time in Botnhamn, Norway, and Malm÷, Sweden. Since then we have been home every summer. In December 1998 Fredrik, Inger and our friend Margot took a cruise with Superstar Leo to Langkawi, Malaysia, and Phuket, Thailand.
1999: Our first Malaysian vacation was in February 1999 when we went to Langkawi, an island in north-western Malaysia. We stayed at the Pelangi Beach Resort and enjoyed it so much we have been back 2 times since then. In March 1999 we tried out Tioman Island, a small island on Malaysia's south-eastern coast. In the beginning of May 1999 Fredrik and Inger, together with visitors Vivi and Erling, took a cruise with Superstar Leo to Perhentian Island on the eastern coast of Malaysia and Hat Yai in Thailand. We then spent the summer from June 5 to June 26 1999 in Oslo and Botnhamn in Norway and Malm÷ in Sweden.
2000: In January 2000 Fredrik, Inger and Inger's mother Aase went to Bali (Indonesia) where they stayed at the Bali Hilton Hotel and had fun at Nusa Dua Beach. In February 2000 Morten joined them for Pelangi Beach Resort at Langkawi again. In March 2000 the whole family went to Miami, Florida, and checked out Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando. In May 2000 we spent a long-weekend at Kota Kinabalu on Borneo where we stayed at the Shangri-la Hotel. Summer vacation was once again in Botnhamn, Norway, from July 15 to August 5 2000. In October 2000 Fredrik and Inger went to Perth, Australia, and had a nice vacation exploring the city, parks and Freemantle, meeting Kangaroos, Wombats and Koala Bears . At the end of the year Fredrik and Inger, and 2 other families, had some pre-Christmas fun in the beginning of December at Pelangi Beach Resort at Langkawi again.
2001: In January 2001 we tried out the exclusive Pangkor Laut Resort, a very small and quiet island at Malaysia's west coast. Summer vacation was as usual in Botnhamn, Norway, from July 13 to August 7 2001. Fredrik and Inger had a cruise with Superstar Gemini October 2001 and visited Penang, Phuketand Phi-Phi island.
2002: In February 2002 we had a nice vacation at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Australia, from February 7 to 17. We had an apartment at Paradise Center Resort which was right on the beach at Surfer's Paradise. We visited all the fun theme parks like Warner Bros. Movie World, Dreamworld, Seaworld and Wet 'n' Wild Water Park. See pictures from our Gold Coast vacation by clicking here. At the beginning of April we took a trip to Bejing, China. We booked a bonus trip with SAS and left from KL Thursday March 28 and returned April 2. We stayed at the SAS Radisson Hotel for the 5 nights. It was really fun to see the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City for the first time. See pictures from our Beijing vacation by clicking here. We then had a short mini-vacation to Pan Pacific Resort at Pangkor, Malaysia, 14-16 April together with our visitors from Troms°. You can see the pictures from Pangkor by clicking here. As usual we spent the summer months in Scandinavia again, but this year we also spent Christmas in Northern Norway.
2003: During Chinese New Year 31 January to 3 February we had a wonderful vacation at Pelangi Beach Resort, Langkawi again. After that it was time to finally explore the Malaysian East Coast. From March to May we tested Blue Coral Island Resort on Lang Tengah Island, Berjaya Redang Beach Resort on Redang Island, Awana Kijal Beach & Golf Resort and Tenggol Island. All these places are just wonderful vacation spots and we cannot wait to get back. The Malaysian East Coast is something we would recommend to everyone who want a nice vacation!
As usual we spent the summer in Northern-Norway. During the fall we were a couple of times in Singapore and played golf at Orchid Country Club. Inger took a shopping trip to Bejing, China, in November. We then celebrated Christmas 2003 at Rendezvous Observation City Hotel on Scarborough Beach outside Perth, Australia.
